We actively encourage wildlife and birds! At dawn and dusk Barn Owl are often seen hunting over the Haugh and wide field margins. In spring and early summer you can hear larks singing high above. Pheasant and partridge scurry for cover, often rearing young by the cottage lane. Heron and Buzzard are common, osprey a special sight. Small birds visit the gardens enjoying nuts from the feeders. Our flock of Grey Face ewes and small herd of cows are more like old friends, most having been born and raised here. I’ll happily own up to being soft about them! The characters all have names, many enjoy a scratch behind their ear! They are another very important part of everyday life at Hendersyde! Though the men of the family don’t agree, I think the hens and ducks are too! They potter about the yard, on a very free range basis! Generally giving a good supply of delicious free range eggs! We also grow oil seed rape, winter wheat and malting barley. The stubble fields are left as a food source for over-wintering birds and animals.
